1. Introduction
This document provides guidance on optimizing system memory usage on your Xatellite Series Router by disabling unused services. While the Xatellite Series Router comes with various pre-installed services to support different networking features, not all of them may be necessary for your specific use case. Disabling unused services can significantly reduce memory consumption and improve system performance.
2. Common Services Overview
2.1 IPfiber
- Purpose: Layer 2 or Layer 3 and secure tunneling
- Memory Impact: Moderate to High
2.2 IPsec (VPN)
- Purpose: VPN and secure tunneling
- Memory Impact: Moderate to High
2.3 Central Administartion (SDM connection)
- Purpose: Centralized Remote Management
- Memory Impact: Moderate to High
3. Disabling Services
3.1 IPfiber
Go to the "IPfiber" menu section, select the tab "Settings",
and uncheck the Enable checkbox and click the "SAVE" button to disable service.
3.2 IPsec (VPN)
Go to the "VPN --> IPsec" menu section, select the tab "Settings",
and uncheck the Enable checkbox and click the "SAVE & APPLY" button to disable the service.
3.3 Central Administartion (SDM connection)
WARNING
If you disable this service, the router will lose connection to the SDM (Service & Device Management) server immediately. Remote administration via SDM server will no longer be available until the service is re-enabled.
Go to the "Services --> Central Admin" menu section,
and uncheck the Enable checkbox and click the "SAVE & APPLY" button to disable the service.
